  • The Week Ahead

If you missed Sunday evening, then you don’t know about two things coming up this week.  First, on Wednesday evening, there will be a brief called business meeting to discuss insurance for the church vans.  This will be immediately following our prayer and study.  Second, we will have our monthly breakfast fellowship this next Saturday at 8:00 am.  I’ll be making pancakes.  So, show up with a hearty appetite and we’ll have a great time!

  • Offering Results

The first day’s results are in for the Edna McMillan Oklahoma State Missions Offering.  We collected $235 today!  That is 47% of our goal.  Not bad for the first day of the offering!

We’ll be collecting the offering through the month of September, so if you weren’t able to get it in today, there is still time.

  • Sunday’s Coming!

This Sunday we’ll begin a series looking at the First Epistle of  John.  We’ll begin with chapter 1, verses 5-10, with a sermon titled, “Walk in the Light”.  We’ll take a look at how we need to let our lives be ruled by grace, not by rules!  The evening service will see us take a look at Commandment #4 “Remember the Sabbath Day and Keep it Holy”.  We’ll examine how we need to keep every day holy, not just Sunday.

Next Wednesday evening will be a continuation of Hebrews 13:1-6, as we ran out of time last Wednesday.  I really appreciate the way in which we take prayer seriously!

I look forward to worhipping with you this Lord’s Day!  I hope you all have a very safe and happy Labor Day weekend!

  • New Site Design

Please leave a comment and tell me what you think of our new website design.  Everything is still in the experimental stages and nothing is set in stone.  Well, it’s the internet after all.  Nothing is set in stone; it’s all digital!

  • Edna McMillan Offering for State Missions

The 2007 Edna McMillan Offering for State Missions will be collected this next week.  Our church goal is $500.  The State goal is $1,000,000.

Edna McMillan was born in Attala, Mississippi, in the late 1800’s.  She married George McMillan, after graduating from the Huntsville Female College (Alabama) in 1890.  They moved to Muskogee in 1902 where George worked in the petroleum industry.  She was president of the Oklahoma Women’s Missionary Union from 1927 to 1938.  She is quoted with “A rich man is one who has enough for himself and enough left over to help others. Though he be possessed of millions, a man is poor, who has only enough for himself.”   She is remembered for constantly encouraging her fellow Southern Baptist to contribute to state missions.  The offering was named after her in 1939.

The one million dollars expected is budgeted by: Evangelism, $337,500; Communications, $150,000; Ministry and Missions, $170,500; Church Planting, $180,000; Ministry to Church Leadership, $107,00; Community and Christian Life Issues, $55,000.  For a more complete breakdown of the budget, click here.

The theme for this years State Mission Offering is “Leave the 99; Find the One”, referring to Matthew 18:12 where Jesus says, “What do you think?  If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying?”

Won’t you pray about and consider what you will contribute to the Edna McMillan State Missions Offering?

  • Something kind of cool

I was looking at the stats for this website and found that someone had come to it by doing a search on “great commission baptist church”.  I am proud in the Lord to know that we were able to meet their search criteria!

  • Library Donation

I recently had a good friend of mine, Tim Tillinghast, whom I got to know through the OU BSU, come to visit us here in Wagoner.  I gave him a tour of our church and showed him the library.  He later said that he had some books he would like to donate to our library, so he sent those and we now have to add to our small collection:

Kingdoms in Conflict by Charles Colson

Laboring in the Harvest by LeRoy Eims

The Lost Art of Disciple Making by LeRoy Eims

Out of the Salt Shaker & Into the World by Rebecca Pippert, and

    Psalms by Eugene Peterson

The books should be ready to be checked by next week.

    Thanks, Tim!

  • Business Meeting

We will have a SHORT special “Called” business meeting immediately following services Sunday evening.  It is to vote on an endorsement of Bo Willis who has been elected to the Oklahoma State Baptist Youth Orchestra.

Let’s give Bo a great boost of encouragement!

  • Sunday’s Coming!

I hope you are having a good week!  I am looking forward to tonight’s services as we pray and open God’s word together.

Next Sunday morning, I will preaching from the book of I Kings chapter 11.  We will examine how Solomon, despite incredible wisdom and wealth, failed to please God.  We’ll see how sin left in the “dark corners” of his life, led to an awful epitaph.  Go ahead and get a head start by reading all about King Solomon.

Sunday evening, we’ll continue our series on “The Ten Commandments” with number 3, “Don’t take God’s name in vain”.  We’ll look together at this and see the what it means to us today.

I look forward to seeing you!  Invite someone to Sunday School.  They’ll be glad they came!

May the Lord richly bless you this week as you seek to serve Him!

  • Missions Offerings

We have two important opportunities to support missions through giving.

Edna McMillan Offering for Oklahoma Missions – Church Goal: $500

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions – Church Goal: $2000

The Edna McMillan Offering is September 2-5, and the Lottie Moon Offering is the month of December.  I registered our church today with the IMB for the Lottie Moon Offering.  I look forward to us breaking both goals!  I’ll be writing more about each of these offerings in the days to come.
