Language is a complex thing. Certainly the “not about us” language can be useful, but does the “lost world” language suggest God is only present in the World when the church takes God there – and doesn’t that make it about “us” again?
Adrian,
Thank you for visiting and taking time to comment. You make an interesting observation. The “lost world” comment has nothing to do with God only being present in the world when the church takes Him there. It has everything to do with the spiritual condition of those who are separated from God because of sin.
The comment from Dr. Stetzer, in context, deals with an attitude of emerging churches who feel that by calling themselves “missional” they are then entitled (somehow) of being the focus of the effort instead of being the tool of the effort.
Blessings!
