  • Church Featured on Local Website

Immanuel Southern Baptist Church is currently featured on a newly successful local website, WagonerOnline.net.  Rick Rose, the website developer and owner stated by phone that he “wanted to make the public aware of (Immanuel’s) Easter services and invitation to the city of Wagoner.”  The feature includes a photo of our church building and the pastor along with links to our church website and phone number.

The website features local news, travel information, and trivia, as well as quotes from notable Oklahomans.  There are many links to Wagoner websites.  Rick Rose reports that they are looking forward to expanding the website services to include other nearby communities.  Support this local effort by visiting the website and shopping through one of the many online portals.

    Thanks for the shout-out, WagonerOnline.net!

  • Another Bluegrass Video

Here is a second video of the Four Mile Trio.  It is a medley of Bluegrass Gospel that they used to close their concert Sunday night.

  • Bluegrass Concert Summary

We had a great blessing at our mini-bluegrass concert.  The “Four-Mile Trio” consisting of Jeanine Loubier, Vicky White and Will Rowan provided us with about 45 minutes of great bluegrass gospel.  Below is a video of “There’s Power in the Blood.”  I’ve also added a few pictures to the photo album.

Afterwards, we all gathered in the fellowship hall to celebrate Mabel’s 92nd birthday.

  • Bits and Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from yesterday’s sermon, “Lip Service” based on Matthew 15:1-9:

    • Traditions can be good or bad.  If they keep us from good, then they are bad.
    • Traditions are not to be worshiped.  They are to help us to worship.
    • Only God can declare what is to be believed and to be done in His service.  When we put traditions above the Word of God, then we declare that we know what is best.
    • Worship is in vain if your heart is not close to God.
    • If you “talk the talk”, you need to “walk the walk”.
    • You can’t say you are going to do this or that and then never do it.
    • God doesn’t live in a building; He lives in us!
    • The church building is just a building.  We are His temple.
    • We don’t go to church; we ARE the church.
    • Many of us have a spiritual heart problem.
    • A by-product of a heart probem is looking like the rest of the world.
    • Do we live like we have God living in us?

You can listen to the sermon here or by clicking the link below.  There is an audio glitch at about 10:20 and a very short part of the sermon is missing.  My apologies.

  • Sunday’s Coming!

Join us in church this Sunday when we will examine Jesus’ conversation with some pharisees and scribes in Matthew 15:1-9 as He told them that their actions didn’t match their words.  He acused them of only giving “Lip Service” to God.  Do we do that?  Do we talk a big talk, but don’t really walk our own talk?  Let’s put our actions where our mouth is.

Sunday evening, we’ll enjoy a free Bluegrass Gospel concert by Jeanine Loubier and Vicky White.  Invite your friends!  The fun starts at 6 pm.

  • Mission Quote of the Week

“There must be a transition from seating to sending. The impact of kingdom growth is more important as a measure. Missional churches give themselves away rather than serve their own needs.” – Ed Stetzer

  • Forgiveness

This video segment is from the 14th season of the TV series E.R.  The man is asking relevant questions, but getting only ‘feel good’ answers.

When we encounter people with real questions about God, what answer do we have for them?  May God give us the grace to be able to tell folks like this about real forgiveness, not just a lot of phoney-baloney new-age psycho-babble.

“for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom 6:23

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Rom 5:8

“…if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” Rom 10:9-10

“for ‘Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Rom 10:13

  • Great Resource!

Today, I found this incredible jewel on the internet.  It is called the Cyber Hymnal.  It lists every hymn I’ve ever heard of and hundreds that I’ve never heard of.  It has a little history of the hymn, a picture of the writer and composer, a link to a playing of the hymn (one verse and stanza) and a link to the score.

I was completely amazed at the volume of information found on this site; it was literally overwhelming.  Take a look and see for yourself. http://www.hymntime.com/tch I am adding it to our Links page, too.

    Bro Rick

NOTE:  The above links are current as per the comment from CyberHymnal below.

  • Bits and Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from yesterday morning sermon, “Deeds of the Flesh” based on Galatians 5:16-21:

    • We humans try to do good, but often end up falling way short of what we want to do.
    • Instead of doing good, we do awful, despicable, unimaginable evil deeds.
    • These evil deeds are the result of our taking control of our lives and trying to be our own boss.
    • We hurt others when we do these bad things.
    • Unbelievers sometimes do good things; believers sometimes do bad things.
    • The list of the bad things shouldn’t characterize the life/lifestyle of a believer.
    • You can get out of the rut of these sin habits by asking Jesus into your heart.
