Bits & Bytes

Posted by Rick on March 30, 2010

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s message, “Cleaning House” based on Matthew 21:12-16:

  • Upon arriving in Jerusalem, Jesus went straight to the temple.
  • He was horrified to find the temple full of people taking advantage of those who wanted to worship God.
  • He “messed everything up” as far as the vendors were concerned.
  • Jesus wasn’t interested in preserving the continued corruption of those making a profit from the temple.
  • Jesus desires to make your temple a proper place of worship, too.

Thank you Paul Williams!

Posted by Rick on March 31, 2008

We want to say a big “Thank you” to Paul Williams who has been serving as our interim Minister of Music for the past month.  Paul, and his son, Reid, traveled each week all the way from Ft. Smith, Ark, to lead our worship.

Paul Williams

Thank you and God Bless You!

Here are some “sound bites” from yesterday’s sermon, “Lip Service” based on Matthew 15:1-9:

  • Traditions can be good or bad.  If they keep us from good, then they are bad.
  • Traditions are not to be worshiped.  They are to help us to worship.
  • Only God can declare what is to be believed and to be done in His service.  When we put traditions above the Word of God, then we declare that we know what is best.
  • Worship is in vain if your heart is not close to God.
  • If you “talk the talk”, you need to “walk the walk”.
  • You can’t say you are going to do this or that and then never do it.
  • God doesn’t live in a building; He lives in us!
  • The church building is just a building.  We are His temple.
  • We don’t go to church; we ARE the church.
  • Many of us have a spiritual heart problem.
  • A by-product of a heart probem is looking like the rest of the world.
  • Do we live like we have God living in us?

You can listen to the sermon here or by clicking the link below.  There is an audio glitch at about 10:20 and a very short part of the sermon is missing.  My apologies.

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “When Depression Looms” based on Psalm 77:

  • Send an “S.O.S.” to God.
  • Emotions sabotage reason.
  • Don’t pretend; be honest with God.  Don’t think you will offend God by “opening up”.
  • Choose to redirect your thoughts; focus on past times where God blessed you.
  • Magnify God to diminish your problems.
  • Worship is not the natural tendancy of the depressed person.
  • Worship can move you from self-absorbed depression to a God-enthralled declaration of faith.

Sunday’s Coming!

Posted by Rick on October 4, 2007

This Sunday, we’ll take a look at I John 3:3-12, and see what Counterfeit Christians are all about.  Sunday evening, we’ll continue with our series on the 10 Commandments with Commandment 8: Don’t Steal.

Sunday’s worship experience depends on you!  If you commune with God throughout the week, you are more likely to experience God at church on Sunday.  But if you are tuned in to your own thoughts, desires, and the things of the world all week long, you might actually miss what God has for you on Sunday.  Don’t just be a Christian on Sunday; be one all week long as well.  Pray! Study the Bible! Do good!

Invite someone to Sunday School this week!  They’ll be glad you did.

Bro Rick
