  • Thursday Potluck

Last Thursday, we started our weekly potluck luncheons.  We were fortunate to have a few musicians in our midst who decided to share a little bit of fun with us.  Jeanine Loubier, Vicky White, and Sally Boyne all provided a little entertainment after the meal.

I can’t guarantee that we’ll have music next week, but I hope that you join us Thursday for a great time of food and fellowship!

  • Union University

Union University was struck by a tornado on February 5, 2008.  Pray for them as they rebuild.  Pray that they would be a blessing to others during this very difficult time.

  • Sunday’s Coming!

This next Thursday, most of us will celebrate Valentine’s Day.  It has turned in to what I like to call a “Hallmark Holiday”, meaning that it has lost most meaning and only provides income for those who sell “stuff” to make the holiday “special”.  Don’t get me wrong, I like Valentine’s Day as much as the next guy, but it isn’t the only day that I set aside to tell my wife how much I love her.  Hopefully, I do that each day, all year long.

I remember as a young boy in grade school, Valentine’s Day was a bit awkward.  The teacher made it easier in saying that “if you give to one, you have to give to all”, which spared me the embarrassment of giving a Valentine Card to the little girl that I liked.  But, I remember getting one, once, that had more than just the little girl’s name on it; it also had a little note tucked away inside the envelope that said, “cute boy”.  I didn’t find that note until a few years later.  By then it was “too late”.

God has sent us a “love note”, too, but not in the way that is common on Valentine’s Day.  God tells us He loves us everyday, not just on one special day that is set aside.  Tomorrow, we’ll take a look at God’s Valentine, John 3:16.

Tomorrow evening, we’ll finish up our survey of the “One Chapter Wonders” with the book of Third John.  Join us as we take a look at “No Greater Joy”.

At 2 pm tomorrow afternoon, we’ll go to Wagoner Care Center for our monthly service.  Come and join us as we sing and visit.

  • Mission Quote of the Week

“People who don’t believe in missions have not read the New Testament. Right from the beginning Jesus said the field is the world. The early church took Him at His word and went East, West, North and South.” – J. Howard Edington

  • Question Finally Answered

The question, “How many Baptists does it take to change a light bulb?” has finally been answered.

    The answer is 8.

Two to ride the lift, one to operate the lift, one to operate the light switch, one to climb the roof, two to climb the ladder, and one to take pictures.

This past Saturday, we changed a total of 55 lights in and on the church building.  All of the chandelier lights were changed, two burned out stage lights were changed, several exit lights were changed, a couple of security lights were changed, and the lights on the steeple were changed and the whole steeple lighting system was repaired to that the steeple lights actually work now.

I have placed some pictures in the “Photo Album” to let you see what a complex operation this was.

Thanks to all who cared enough to risk life and limb making this happen!

  • Bits and Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “Are you a Convert or a Disciple?” based on Matthew 7: 24-27.

    • A convert is one who has been persuaded from one belief or view to another.
    • A disciple is one who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another.
    • A convert could be a true believer or one in “name” only.
    • A disciple is someone who is following Jesus and obeying His commandments.
    • The Great Commission did not say, “Go and make converts…”; it said, “Go and make disciples…”
    • Jesus said, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow Me.”
    • Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”
    • Jesus said, “Abide in Me, and I in you.  As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.”
