  • Food Pantry Ministry Begins Today!

After a long awaited time of anticipation and preparation, our Food Pantry Ministry began this morning at 9:00!

The church met together last year and decided that we need to have an outreach ministry of some kind.  After much prayer and conversation, we agreed to begin a Food Pantry Ministry.

Many worthy ideas for ministry were presented.  It was suggested that we try several at once.  We decided to stick with one thing and do it well – for now.  If the Lord allows, in the future will may perhaps extend to other areas of service.

All of the volunteers who will work the Food Pantry Ministry have been trained in sharing their personal testimony and in leading someone to faith in Jesus Christ.  We decided that to only meet someone’s physical needs and let their spiritual needs go unmet was unacceptable.

Our Food Pantry Ministry is open from 9 AM – Noon, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Anyone and everyone is welcome to come in for assistance.

  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “Standing Firm” based on Daniel 1:1-21:

    • Sometimes we are tempted to compromise based on our circumstances.
    • Once we compromise, we will have to fight it for the rest of our lives.
    • If we stand firm and do not compromise, we may have to face the consequences.
    • If we don’t stand firm and compromise, we will have to face God.
    • Who are you trying to please?

  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “Desperately Distant from God” based on Exodus 20:18-21:

    • Many people keep their distance from God.
    • Some keep their distance because they are afraid of God.
    • Some keep their distance because they prefer their sinful lifestyle.
    • God calls us to Him.
    • God is approachable.
    • God has made the way (through Jesus Christ) for us to be reconciled to Him.

I took this picture on the way to the office this morning.  The building really looked beautiful covered in ice.  Praise the Lord that we don’t have a “cold” church!

  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from last Sunday morning’s sermon, “A Place for You” based on John 14:1-6:

    • Jesus said He would prepare a place for us.
    • That place is in Heaven with Him.
    • We have that place if our names are written in the Book of Life.
    • The only way to get your name in that Book is to trust Jesus for your salvation.
    • There is also a place for those who do not have their name in the Book of Life.
    • That place is in Hell.

    January 19, 2009

    Dear Friends of Immanuel Southern,

Happy New Year and God Bless You!  This past year has been absolutely amazing.  God has been at work here in Enid, Oklahoma.  Our church, Emmanuel Baptist, has ministered to countless numbers of people through conferences, revivals, church camps, vacation bible school, our annual Christmas Pageant, and local missions.   I have participated in these various ministry opportunities and have been tremendously blessed.

We have been given another ministry opportunity.  March 12-23, 2009, Emmanuel Baptist, is taking a group of 11 people, teenagers and adults, to Tokyo, Japan.  While there,   we will be ministering to children through vacation bible school, day camps and bible studies.   The children will range from pre-kindergarten through teens.  These children and youth are special to us because their parents are missionaries who have been called to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Japan.

While their parents are participating in training and teaching seminars to help them as they continue their work spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, we will be teaching, training, encouraging, and loving the children.  This in turn will build stronger young people who can help and support their parents in telling others around the world about Jesus.

I am writing this letter to ask for your support.  …  First, I need people to begin praying right now for this mission trip.  Pray for our team as we travel.  Pray for our safety.  Pray that we can be a vessel used by God for His glory.  Pray for the children and youth to whom we will be ministering.  Pray that they may hear His word.  Secondly, we need financial support.  It is the responsibility of each team member to obtain the funds for this trip.  The cost of the trip is $2,500.00 per person. …

As I asked earlier, please pray for the team and me as we prepare to share the love of Jesus by strengthening and encouraging those who have been called to spread His Word around the world.  Please pray for foreign missions.

    Sincerely,

    [Martin Whipple]

Martin was the Worship Leader for our Spring Revival last year.  We will be taking up a special offering for him this next Sunday.  Make your tax deductible checks out to Immanuel Southern with the notation of “Japan Trip” and we will make sure the money is sent to his home church in Enid.  If you have any questions, please contact Bro Rick.

  • Pray for Our New President!

As our country experiences another peaceful transfer of power from one administration to the next, let us commit to pray for our new President. President Obama will need God’s direction and God’s wisdom as he leads our country. We must be diligent to pray for him and the decisions that he makes, that they would bring glory and honor to God. Pray for him to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to surround himself with wise counsel. The honor of leading our country is no easy task and our new President will need our prayers!
