  • Robert Morrison

I had the privilege of seeing Robert Morrison’s gravesite in Macau, China.. in 2006.  Morrison is the first one to translate the Bible into Chinese.

  • Mission Quote of the Week

“The man…looking at him with a smile that only half concealed his contempt, inquired, ‘Now, Mr. Morrison, do you really expect that you will make an impression on the idolatry of the Chinese empire?’  ‘No, sir,’ said Morrison, ‘but I expect that God will.’”  – of Robert Morrison

  • Bits and Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from yesterday’s sermon, “Responding to a Raw Deal”:

    • Life isn’t fair.
    • The wicked who prosper will only have a temporary prosperity.
    • Sometimes “temporary” means a human lifetime; think of temporary in terms of eternity.
    • It is OK to be brutally honest with God and complain to Him.
    • You need to get the “Big Picture”, a prospective that includes God and eternity.
    • When you look at the prosperity of the unrighteous, you take your eyes off God and can be swept away by your desires.
    • Get in the fellowship of believers; stay in church.
    • Renew your fellowship with God.
    • Confess your sin, then commit to keep your eyes on God and God’s kingdom.

  • Sunday’s Coming!

Dear Friends, we have an exciting start to 2008!  We’re going to be looking at a series of sermons called “God Is Closer Than You Think”.  This first Sunday of the year, we’ll look at Psalm 73 and Asaph’s complaint to God of the prosperity of the wicked.  We’ll look at how it pertains to today with the sermon, “God is Closer Than You Think, When You Get a Raw Deal”.

I know there are some right here in Wagoner who read this blog who haven’t yet visited our church.  I invite you right now to start the New Year right by going to church!  Maybe you’ve been hurt by “church people” in the past.  Maybe a previous pastor has “done you wrong”.  Maybe you’ve even been hurt in this church.  I urge you to put it behind you and give God another try!

Our church is a caring congregation of folks who just want to love the Lord.  Even though no one (or no church) is perfect, you will find love and acceptance here at Immanuel.  If you are looking for a perfect church, you’ll never find one; the church is full of people.  People are fallible.  Only God is perfect.

Come grow with us!  Make 2008 the year that you either get back in church or the year that you decide to get right with God!  Sunday School starts at 9:45 and Worship starts at 10:55.  See you Sunday!  😉

  • Mission Quote of the Week

“Does it not stir up our hearts to go forth & help them, does it not make us long to leave our luxury, our exceeding abundant light, and go to them that sit in darkness?” – Amy Carmichael

  • Lottie Moon Update

The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering supports missionaries through the International Mission Board. Our church goal for 2007 is $750 and our Hallelujah Goal for 2007 is $1000. I am please to announce that we have surpassed our Hallelujah Goal! As of this morning, we have now raised $1181 for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering!

The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering provides support in the form of insurance, travel expenses, rent, office equipment, supplies, etc for international missionaries. Having been the recipient of Lottie Moon funds, I can definitely say that your gifts are greatly appreciated by missionaries all over the world.

I encourage you to begin a savings program for the 2008 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. I remember when I was a little boy, my mother was a member of a bank’s Christmas Club. Each month, she would take $10 and put it into the account, then when Christmas time came, she had $100 or so to spend on Christmas presents. Why can’t we do the same with the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering? After all, it is much more important than Christmas presents, right? There is no reason that we can’t double our church’s goal for next year if we all plan for it!

Take a moment and pray for direction for what God may have you to give next year.

  • Bits and Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from yesterdays sermon “On the Threshold of a New Year”:

    • You can fear the future or you can embrace the future.
    • God has been faithful in the past which means you can depend on Him to be faithful in the future.
    • When you look at the situation, you are taking your eyes off God.
    • When you keep your eyes on God, you are able to look at the potential.
    • Your perspective can make all the difference for the future.
    • Listen to news in light of what you know about God.
    • Make your plans based on God’s faithfulness.
    • We look at the past with 20/20 vision, but we must look at the future through God’s eyes.

May God bless you and your family in 2008!

  • Bits and Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from yesterday’s sermon, “God’s Christmas Gift”:

    • We, as gentiles, we not included as God’s chosen people.
    • God’s gift was too big to just give to the Jews.
    • God’s way was to come in humility.
    • He could have proclaimed Christ’s birth worldwide, but instead it was only to a few shepherds.
    • The birth of a modern king is covered by worldwide media, but God chose a time when there was no TV.
    • God loved us all so much that He sent His only Son, to become sin in our place.
    • To take a gift and put it on a shelf to open later is not really receiving a gift.
    • We must not just take, the gift, but we must open it and receive it personally.

You can listen to yesterdays sermon online here.
