Zona Tillman1

Zona Tillman

Zona Tillman was elected by acclamation to lead ISBC’s Cookie Ministry Team at the regular July monthly business meeting last night.  Zona has a passion for evangelism and will be a breath of fresh air to this important ministry.

Ladies of the church prepare cookies in sacks that contain Gospel tracts and distribute them at the Wagoner County Jail once a month. Inmates have written to indicate that they have been saved because of this ministry.

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s message, “Comfortable Christianity” based on Revelation 3: 14-22:

  • The Church in the West has become like Laodicea
  • God has blessed us abundantly
  • Because of our blessing we fail to acknowledge our need for God
  • We are ignorant and apathetic to our own condition
  • Jesus says that we must be zealous and repent!

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s message, “The Christian Life: Evangelism” based 0n I Thessalonians 2:1-4:

  • You don’t have to be a Billy Graham to share the gospel.
  • The gospel is meant to be shared, not kept secret.
  • God has entrusted the gospel to us to share with others.
  • The gospel is true and can stand alone without gimmicks (like promises of health and wealth)
  • We share the gospel because we love God and want to please Him.

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s message, “The Commandment of Christ” based on Matthew 28:18-20:

  • Jesus expects His followers to tell others about His good news.
  • Jesus left us with instructions to follow and expects them to be done when He gets back.
  • As we go about our regular lives, we should be faithful to tell others.
  • We shouldn’t wait until we go somewhere special to start telling others about Jesus.
  • Baptism is an important part of following Jesus.

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “God’s Bail-Out Plan” based on Acts 4:8-12:

  • The economy is in crisis.  We got that way by the irresponsible actions of many.
  • The government has tried/is trying multiple “bailout plans” to rescue the economy.
  • Two of the bailout plans seem to have failed.  The third may not do much either.
  • Our spiritual condition is in crisis.  We got that we because we sin.
  • We have tried multiple ways to get ourselves out of this mess, but nothing seems to work.
  • God decided that HE would take charge of the situation and bail us out.
  • God became Flesh and dwelt among us as Jesus Christ.
  • Jesus died for us on the cross, taking our punishment upon Him.
  • If we accept His act on our behalf, we are “bailed out” of our sin debt.
  • If we do not accept Jesus’ act on the cross, we must face the full wrath of God.

You can listen to the sermon here or by clicking on the audio player below.

You can also listen to Sunday evening’s sermon, “The Church Has Left the Building” based on Matthew 9:10-13 here, or by clicking on the audio player below.

Mission Quote of the Week

Posted by Rick on August 7, 2008

And I want to ask you: How much would it cost you to sow in tears? I don’t mean just giving God something from your abundance, but finding a way to say, “I believe in the harvest, and therefore I will give what makes no sense. The world would call me unreasonable to do this — but I must sow regardless, in order that I may someday celebrate with songs of joy.” – Del Tarr
