Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s message, “What Kind of Love?” based on I John 3:1-3:

  • Our view of what love is is skewed by Hollywood.
  • God is the ultimate authority on love.
  • God IS love.
  • John was overwhelmed with God’s love and told us to pay attention to it.
  • God loved us so much, that despite our wretched condition, adopted us to be His sons and daughters.
  • We must act like we are children of the King.
  • We must love others as God loves us.

Haiti Earthquake Relief Efforts

Posted by Rick on January 14, 2010

Dear ISBC Family,

As you know a devastating earthquake hit the island nation of Haiti.  Efforts are currently underway by the Baptist Disaster Relief to supply assistance and needed supplies to the local populace.  I have been asked by Dr. Anthony Jordan, the Executive Director of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma to provide church members information in order to make a donation to this effort.  You can mail your checks directly to them at:

Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief – Haiti Earthquake Relief

Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma

3800 N. May Avenue

Oklahoma City, OK 73112

You can also donate online at https://www.bgco.org/donate/

For your convenience, I have compiled a list of trustworthy charities that will honorably use your donation for God’s glory.  You can access that list by clicking this link:  http://www.rickboyne.com/2010/01/haiti-earthquake-relief-options.html

Be on your guard for scam artists who may contact you via email saying they are a victim of the earthquake or that they have family there, or they are with a charity.  Only give money to those whom you know and trust.

Blessings on you as you share God’s merciful bounty,

Rick Boyne

Pastor

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “Dare to Be a Daniel” based on Daniel 6:

  • Daniel was in the habit of  praying.
  • Daniel loved God more than he loved his own life.
  • Daniel wasn’t going to let the law of the land stop his devotion to God.
  • Daniel’s contemporaries were jealous of his model lifestyle.
  • Daniel’s obedience resulted in the whole nation knowing/learning about God.

You can listen to the sermon here or you can click on the audio player below.  Please know that due to some technical problems with the free podcast service, it may take several minutes before the podcast actually starts playing.  Thank you for your patience.

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “God’s Bail-Out Plan” based on Acts 4:8-12:

  • The economy is in crisis.  We got that way by the irresponsible actions of many.
  • The government has tried/is trying multiple “bailout plans” to rescue the economy.
  • Two of the bailout plans seem to have failed.  The third may not do much either.
  • Our spiritual condition is in crisis.  We got that we because we sin.
  • We have tried multiple ways to get ourselves out of this mess, but nothing seems to work.
  • God decided that HE would take charge of the situation and bail us out.
  • God became Flesh and dwelt among us as Jesus Christ.
  • Jesus died for us on the cross, taking our punishment upon Him.
  • If we accept His act on our behalf, we are “bailed out” of our sin debt.
  • If we do not accept Jesus’ act on the cross, we must face the full wrath of God.

You can listen to the sermon here or by clicking on the audio player below.

The True Meaning of Christmas

Posted by Rick on December 24, 2008

Just in case you were wondering, the true meaning of Christmas cannot be found in Christmas Trees, Christmas Lights, or even Christmas Presents. We don’t buy it at Wal-Mart or Macy’s.

The true meaning of Christmas is this: God became flesh and dwelt among us. Immanuel. (John 1:14)

The full story can be found here: Luke 2:1-20

But why? What was the purpose of Jesus? John 3:16 says “God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.” (CEV)

You see, there was a problem. God loves us, but He HATES sin. There was only one solution: “He made Him who knew no sin (Jesus) to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (I Corinthians 5:21) God punished Jesus for OUR SIN! All of God’s wrath was poured out on Jesus on the cross.

When He came back to life, He provided the way for us to have eternal life, if we believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that God raised Him from the dead, we can be saved from our sins. (Romans 10:9-10)

As we put our presents UNDER the Christmas Tree, God hung His gift to us ON the tree, that is the cross. If we accept that gift, then the punishment for our sin is fulfilled in Jesus. If, however, you do not accept that gift, you will face the full brunt of God’s wrath when you die. That is the “Good News” or the Gospel. That Jesus died in your place so that you don’t have to!

This Christmas, won’t you open your gift from God? The Bible says that “Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved!” (Romans 10:13)

May God bless you and your family for a very Merry Christmas!

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “Sin? What Sin?” based on Romans 6:1-14:

  • We don’t like to talk about sin because it makes us “feel bad”.
  • Sin IS bad and we SHOULD feel bad about the sin we do.
  • The unrighteous person looks around and says, “I am a good person; I’ve never killed anyone”
  • God says “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”.
  • The penitent (or broken hearted) person says, “My sin is ever before me”.
  • God says “if you confess your sins, God is faithful and just to forgive your sins.”
  • The Forgiver of sins (God) says, “Come now, let us reason together. Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool.”
  • God is in the “forgiveness business”.

Here are some “sound bites” from yesterday morning sermon, “Deeds of the Flesh” based on Galatians 5:16-21:

  • We humans try to do good, but often end up falling way short of what we want to do.
  • Instead of doing good, we do awful, despicable, unimaginable evil deeds.
  • These evil deeds are the result of our taking control of our lives and trying to be our own boss.
  • We hurt others when we do these bad things.
  • Unbelievers sometimes do good things; believers sometimes do bad things.
  • The list of the bad things shouldn’t characterize the life/lifestyle of a believer.
  • You can get out of the rut of these sin habits by asking Jesus into your heart.

You can listen to yesterday morning’s sermon here or click the link below.

You can listen to yesterday evening’s sermon, “Fruit of the Spirit” based on Galatians 5:22-25 here or by clicking the link below.

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday Morning’s sermon, “God’s Valentine”, based on John 3:16:

  • God loves us.
  • Our sin separated us from God.
  • God demonstrates His love for us, that while we were still sinners, Jesus died for us.
  • Jesus took our punishment upon Him.
  • If we believe that Jesus is the Son of God and believe that He died for our sins and if we call upon Jesus to save us, He will hear us and will forgive our sins.
  • He wants us to tell others His message of love.
