  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday Morning’s sermon, “God Has  a Plan” based on Jeremiah 29:11-13:

    • We try to make our own plans, but usually just end up making a mess.
    • We should not try to ask God to simply bless the plans we have made.
    • We should seek God’s plan then adapt to it!
    • God wants us to succeed; success may not always be what we think it is.

  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “What is a Christian?” based on Acts 11:19-26

    • Just because you call yourself a Christian, doesn’t make you one.
    • There should be evidence in your life of your new life in Christ.
    • A Christian shows evidence of believing.
    • A Christian shows evidence of adhering to God’s word.
    • A Christian shows evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit.
    • A Christian shows evidence of faithful service to God.
    • A Christian shows evidence of witnessing (telling) their faith.

  • ISBC to Co-Sponsor New Native American Work

Sunday Evening, May 10, 2009, Immanuel Southern Baptist Church voted, in a special “called” business meeting to co-sponsor with 1st Indian Baptist Church (Muskogee) a new Native American work.  The new mission will be hosted here at ISBC and will eventually be located in Wagoner.

Bro. Bill Sherrill, Director of Mission for Muskogee Baptist Association spoke at the meeting to help explain expectations and responsibilities.  After a good discussion with many pertinent questions, the church voted and the motion passed!

It is expected that there will be a Fall 2009 start to the work.  Most of the details have yet to be discussed, however, with the vote last night, those discussions can now begin in earnest!

Pray with us as we step out in faith to do something our church has never done before.  However, as we seek to fulfill the Great Commission right here at home, we are sure that God will bless us and will bless this new church plant!

  • Sunday’s Coming!

If you were arrested and accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?  Many like to call themselves “Christian”, but, Sunday morning, we’ll examine together and answer the question, “What is a Christian?” based on Acts 11:19-26.

Sunday evening, we’ll talk about “Tooting Your Own Horn” based on Matthew 6:1-6.

Immediately following the evening service, we’ll have a Special “Called” Business Meeting to discuss the opportunity of co-sponsoring a new Indian Mission here in Wagoner.  We will partner with First Indian Baptist Church in Muskogee and the new work will use our facilities.

What an exciting time to be  a part of God’s Work at Immanuel Southern!

  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from yesterday morning’s sermon, “Sound the Alarm” based on Ezekiel 33:1-11:

    • If we share the Gospel and someone doesn’t believe, then their blood is on their hands.
    • If we share the Gospel and they believe, then they are saved.
    • If we fail to share the Gospel, they will die in their sins and their blood will be on our hands.
    • We are commanded to share the Gospel.
    • God has given us the authority to tell people to repent and believe the Gospel.
    • We must be faithful to the task.

  • Bits & Bytes

We had a great day yesterday with visitors in both services!  Here are some “sound bites” from the morning sermon, “My Grace Is Sufficient” based on 2 Corinthians 12:7-10

    • America is being fed garbage and being told it is the Gospel.
    • The Gospel nor the Bible NEVER promises for you to be rich or healthy or happy.
    • God does promise that you will have hardships.
    • God promises that He will be with you in those difficult times.
    • The True Gospel is that God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to die on our behalf that if we believe in Him, we’ll have eternal life instead of being separated from Him for eternity.

  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some sound bites from Sunday’s message, “Don’t Waste Your Miracle” based on Mark 2:2-12.  It is important to note that there are two interviews during the message; one with Marty Berryhill, whom God brought back to life on Easter Morning 2009 after dying of a heart attack, and one with Dee Berryhill, Marty’s husband, who has been faithful to share this miracle with others:

    • So many came to hear Jesus speak that there was “Standing Room Only” in the house.
    • Four friends got together and decided to bring their paralyzed friend to Jesus for healing.
    • After digging a hole in the roof, the lowered him down in front of Jesus.
    • Jesus saw their faith and responded by forgiving the man’s sins.
    • This made people murmur in their hearts that Jesus was blaspheming because only God can forgive sins.
    • Jesus saw their hearts and told them that if they needed proof that He could forgive sins, then He would make the man walk.
    • The whole household of people were amazed at the miracle and began glorifying God.
    • If you are waiting for God to perform a miracle before you believe, then listen to Marty’s story.
    • It is no less a miracle for God to forgive YOUR sins than it is for Him to raise someone from the dead.

  • Updated Abbott Prayer Requests

We received the following prayer request from the Abbotts this morning:

Thanks to all of you who have been faithfully praying for Bryan’s helicopter licensure situation. Our representatives will be meeting with the government and FAA regarding this matter TOMORROW, so please pray for favor and results.

Also, Bryan is currently in Central Sulawesi looking for a house and attending meetings with our future co-workers. Please be praying for wisdom while he looks and discusses future goals for the field.

Lastly, the weather is changing, finally bringing an end to a very long rainy season – Praise the Lord. However, with this change, many people are sick, including us. Please especially be praying for Mikayla. On her 2nd ear infection in the last month, she is having a hard time fighting this off. Having discussed with a local doctor the possible need for tubes, I am not comfortable having this procedure done where we live and would like to avoid this operation completely if at all possible. Anything is possible with God, so we trust our Great Physician to completely heal her.

Thanks again to each of you faithful prayer warriors. It is a blessing to have people like you holding our ropes!
