Here are some “sound bites” from last Sunday’s morning message, “Stop GOING to church (and start BEING the church) based on James 1:22-25:

  • The church is the building.
  • The church is the members.
  • We are the body of Christ.
  • When we meet, it isn’t “church” – it is the assembling of the church.
  • We must have this mindset if we are to live as God would like us to live.

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s message, “The Christian Life: Stewardship” based on Mark 12:41-44:

  • Tithing is a command of the law of the Old Covenant.
  • There is no way Christians can biblically tithe today.
  • What we call tithing today is merely giving 10%.
  • God does not call us to tithe.
  • He calls us to give sacrificially.
  • He calls us to give faithfully.
  • He calls us to trust Him to meet our needs.
  • To require someone to tithe is nothing more than modern-day pharisee-ism and legalism.

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s message, “Cafeteria Christianity” based on II Timothy 3:14-17:

  • You can’t pick and choose what you are going to believe or obey based on what pleases you.
  • All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable.
  • Jesus said, “If you love me, obey My commandments.”
  • Following Jesus isn’t easy.

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s message, “Attention Getting Disorder” based on Matthew 6:1-18

  • What is our motivation for our good works?
  • If we try to get the approval of people, we don’t aim high enough.
  • We should let our good works shine as to glorify our Father in Heaven.
  • Don’t “not do” something because someone might see you do it.
  • Work as unto the Lord!

Mission Quote of the Week

Posted by Rick on December 2, 2008

Since we are in  “Lottie Moon Christmas Offering” season and since it was annouced yesterday that we are officially in a recession, I thought I’d give this quote as it relates to charitable giving.  Use it to guide your missions giving:

I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare. In other words, if our expenditure on comforts, luxuries, amusement, etc., is up to the standard common among those with the same income as our own, we are probably giving away too little. If our giving does not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say it is too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot because our commitment to giving excludes them.   – C.S. Lewis
