  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from yesterday morning’s sermon, “What on Earth Are You Doing for Heaven’s Sake?”, based on Matthew 6:19-21:

    • Many people lost everything they had in Hurricane Ike
    • Some folks who lost “everything”, really lost everything; others only lost their possessions
    • When we store up wealth and possessions here on earth, they can easily be taken away
    • When we store up treasures in Heaven, they’ll be there for all eternity.
    • You can tell where your heart is by looking at your checkbook and at your daily planner.

  • Sunday’s Coming!

Join us at Immanuel this Sunday as we ask the question, “What on Earth are you doing for Heaven’s sake?”  Are you investing in eternity, or are you just playing around in this world?  Sunday morning, we’ll take a look at Matthew 6:19-21.

Saturday morning is our monthly fellowship breakfast.  You are invited to come and eat with us at 8:30 Saturday morning.  We’ll have bisquits and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, and some other delicious things!  Invite your friends and let’s make a morning of it!

  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “Be Holy” based on I Peter 1:13-16:

    • Holiness is NOT a list of do’s and don’ts.  That is religion.  That is legalism.
    • Holiness IS conforming to the character of God and being obedient to the will of God.
    • Holiness is a commitment to a changed life.
    • Holiness is being in the Word and talking back to God through prayer.
    • Holiness is an attitude.

  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “Tear Down Your Idols!”, based on II Kings 18:1-7:

    • God gave the command to “not have, make, or worship idols”.
    • While most of us may not have any idols in our homes, sometimes we make things into idols.
    • An idol can be defined as “anything that distracts you from worshiping God”.
    • What about “cultural trinkets”?  Do they count as idols?
    • You may not worship Buddha statues that you may have, but why have them in the first place?
    • Do you worship your kids? grandkids? money? spouse? sex? cars? etc?
    • Tear down those idols in your life and put God back in the place He deserves!  In the CENTER of your life!

  • Sunday’s Coming!

Join us this Sunday at Immanuel as we take a look at II Kings 18:1-7 with the sermon, “Tear Down Your Idols!”  Many of the kings of the Old Testament were commended for “doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord”.  Some were condemned for “doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord”.  Others had a commendation, but with a caveat: “They did right, but did not tear down the altars in the high places”.  We’ll look together to see what that means for each of us today.

Sunday evening is our 5th Sunday Sing and Finger Food Fellowship.  This month, however, we will be adding a very special time of fellowship as we incorporate a baby shower for Amy and Tony Neis.  They are registered at Wal-Mart, so it should be easy to find what they need.

Be sure to invite someone to Sunday School!

  • Mission Quote of the Week

“Missionary work is a grain of sand, the work untouched is a pyramid…Face it.  Look and listen, alone with God.  Then go, let go, help go.  But never, never, never think that anything short of this is being ‘interested in missions’” – Amy Carmichael

  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “Mean What You Say”, based on Matthew 5:33-37.

    • Oaths and vows became a way for people to lie.
    • If people swore “by God”, then they were answerable to God.
    • If people sower “by heaven” or “by Jerusalem”, they could get away with lying.
    • Jesus said to mean what you say.
    • Jesus said to not swear at all, just simply tell the truth all the time.
    • Let your “yes” be a real “yes”, and your “no” be a real “no.  Don’t make it conditional.

  • Bits & Bytes

Here are some “sound bites” from Sunday morning’s sermon, “Self Examination” based on I Corinthians 11:17-30.

    • We must not take the Lord’s supper in an unworthy manner.
    • We must examine ourselves to make sure we are able to take the Lord’s Supper.
    • We must have confessed Jesus as Lord before we are “worthy” to take it.
    • We must not use it as an excuse to exclude other believers.
    • We must not attach legalistic rules to govern who takes it.
    • In taking the Lord’s Supper, we proclaim His death until Jesus returns.
